What is required to produce an episode of Colorado OutSpoken?

Each episode requires money and labor. Money is needed to rent the studio, to purchase the required video tapes, and to buy a number of recordable DVDs used to provide guests with complimentary copies of the show. Of course, the "per episode" cost doesn't include the cost of our set, which exceeded $1,000. The amount of labor required is surprising.

We estimate that each episode of the program requires more than 100 "person hours" of labor to produce. That total breaks down to about 75 person hours for studio production and post-production, 5 hours for news preparation, and about 6 hours for pre-show planning, including communicating with guests, timing components, and establishing the down-to-the-second schedule used during taping. It also includes about 20 hours spent producing two event-coverage pieces, which involves planning, scheduling, travel to and from, interviewing, taping, editing, and final assembly.

Labor is also required for "overhead" tasks such as website management, correspondence, move ticket giveaway, marketing, planning and Board of Directors meetings, set construction and maintenance, bulletin board management, and more.
